Trailer Watch: Take an Epic Adventure with Oprah in Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time”

Storm Reid as Meg in “A Wrinkle in Time”

“Your father has accomplished something extraordinary — also dangerous,” Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey) tells Meg Murry (Storm Reid). “He’s trapped by a darkness that’s actively spreading throughout the universe. And the only one who can stop it is you.” So begins the main plot of Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time.”

Adapted by “Frozen’s” Jennifer Lee, “A Wrinkle in Time” is based on Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 fantasy novel of the same name. As the new trailer establishes, the film is about Meg, whose scientist father (Chris Pine) has gone missing. After receiving a visit from the mystical Mrs. Which and her cohorts Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), Meg goes on a journey through time and space to save her father and the world.

“You’re going to be tested every step of the way. Trust nothing,” Mrs. Who warns Meg. “The only thing faster than light is the darkness.”

“A Wrinkle in Time” is the third ever $100 million-plus movie to be directed by a woman — and the first to be helmed by a woman of color. DuVernay’s other credits include “Queen Sugar,” “Selma,” and “13th.” The Oscar-nominated director recently signed on to write and direct a five-part miniseries about the Central Park Five for Netflix.

Also starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zach Galifianakis, and André Holland (“Moonlight”), “A Wrinkle in Time” opens March 9, 2018.
