Tribeca Film Fest Adds Day-Long #TimesUp Event

#TimesUp supporter Ashley Judd on “Good Morning America”

Herstory is being made at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. The fest is set to host #TimesUp’s inaugural New York event, Deadline reports. The day-long program will feature conversations with the movement’s supporters, including — but not limited to — Ashley Judd, Marisa Tomei, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Amber Tamblyn. Joining the actresses will be leaders across industries such as Joanna Coles (Hearst), Fatima Goss Graves (National Women’s Law Center), and Danielle Herzlich (New Jersey National Guard Sexual Assault Alliance).

With proceeds set to go to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, the event, scheduled for April 28, will “explore how we got here, the women who came before us to make this work possible, and what’s next for Time’s Up and beyond,” according to Tribeca’s organizers.

“In response to the growing national movement, Tribeca Film Festival has partnered with Time’s Up to host a day of conversations with the outspoken women playing a pivotal role in raising awareness about inequality in the workplace,” the fest announced in a statement. “Activists, storytellers, business leaders, filmmakers, lawyers, media figures, and more share their stories, seek next steps to establish the parameters for lasting change across industries and the pay spectrum.”

This year’s competition lineup at Tribeca is 44 percent women-directed. The fest just announced a few additions to its slate including the world premiere of “Horses: Patti Smith and her Band,” a doc featuring a performance of Smith’s “Horses” album, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Launched in January, Time’s Up legal fund has already raised $21 million as of March 1. The fund is designed to help working class women — from across different industries — who are dealing with sexual misconduct.
