Viola Davis and Debra Martin Chase to Produce Legal Drama About County Prosecutor Kym Worthy

TNT is reportedly developing a legal drama from “How to Get Away with Murder” star Viola Davis. The Emmy-winning actress is executive producing “Conviction” alongside Debra Martin Chase (“Sparkle”).

The series is inspired by the life of Kym Worthy, the second African-American to serve as a county prosecutor in Michigan. Worthy, hailed as “The Toughest Woman in Detroit,” launched a campaign to clear a backlog of over 10,000 unprocessed rape kits in Detroit. “My laser focus is to get this office properly resourced so we can deal with crime,” Worthy has said.

Ayanna Floyd (“Empire”) is writing the script for “Conviction” and will also serve as an EP. The project is unrelated to ABC’s pilot of the same name starring Hayley Atwell (“Agent Carter”). Davis will not star, though it hasn’t been announced who will.
