Watch: Lena Dunham and “Girls” Cast Record PSA on Sexual Assault

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham and her “Girls” co-stars have released a PSA about sexual assault in the wake of Brock Turner’s all too lenient sentencing. Dunham posted the video to her Twitter account, where she dedicated the clip to “the brave survivor in the Stanford case who has given so much to change the conversation.” (If you haven’t read the survivor’s heart-stopping letter to Turner, be sure to do so.)

In the video, Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, and Jemima Kirke share statistics, including the fact that “one in five women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime.” The foursome also critique rape culture, pointing to society’s “default reaction… to disbelieve, silence, or shame” survivors.

“Don’t avoid the hard conversation,” urges Williams. The HBO stars give tips about how to help those who have been affected by sexual assault, whether it’s offering them a ride to medical care or simply listening.

Check out the informative, much-needed PSA below. The premiere date of the sixth and final season of “Girls” hasn’t been released yet. Season 5 concluded in April.
