In 1975, director, journalist, and writer Nora Ephron sat down with radio host Studs Terkel for a conversation about gender and politics.
Ephron had just had her book, “Crazy Salad: Some Things About Women,” published and explained to Terkel that the title came from a fragment from W.B. Yeats’s poem “A Prayer for my Daughter” that reads: “It’s certain that fine women eat / A crazy salad with their meat.”
The folks at Blank On Blank, a PBS Digital Studio, have turned a bit of the chat into an animated tribute to Ephron. The lovingly animated little film brings Ephron’s words to life. The visual treat showcases Ephron’s thoughts about the women’s right movement, choice, and the ridiculous time a bartender wouldn’t serve her and her female friend a drink because they were “un-escorted.”
The interview ended with Ephron poignantly saying, “It’s okay being a woman now. I like it. Try it some time.”
