Watch: “Rogue One” Clips Tease More of the Latest “Star Wars” Heroine

Felicity Jones in “Rogue One”: Disney

In anticipation of the arrival of our next “Star Wars” heroine, some new clips and featurettes from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” have been released.

Hitting theaters on December 16, “Rogue One” revolves around Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) being tasked with stealing the plans to the Death Star, the very plans that Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) stows away inside R2-D2 and are found by Luke Skywalker in the first “Star Wars” outing. The storyline was inspired by a part of the opening crawl of the first film, which reads: “During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star…”

In this first clip, Jyn attempts to rally reluctant members of the Rebel Alliance. It’s an inspiring, fast-paced moment that showcases a female leader initiating a movement.

This official featurette gives a behind-the-scenes look at some of the interesting creatures and aliens that will appear in the movie.

And these exciting TV spots show off a little more of the female-led action.

Having a second “Star Wars” film in a row where the main protagonist is female calls for a celebration. The “Rey-wakening” of “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” brought a new female energy to the franchise, which was key, because there are tons of female “Star Wars” fans. And they’ll surely flock to the theaters this month just like they did last year in order to see themselves represented in one of the most beloved franchises in cinematic history.
