“Westworld” Co-Creator Lisa Joy Renews Overall Deal with Warner Bros. TV

Lisa Joy: Warner Bros. UK/YouTube

Lisa Joy will continue doing business with Warner Bros. TV. The “Westworld” co-creator/co-showrunner/EP has extended her overall deal with the studio. Joy will stay on as co-showrunner of the HBO sci-fi drama and “create and develop new projects for the studio via her Kilter Films banner,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on the 1972 film from writer-director Michael Crichton, “Westworld” is set in a high-tech, Western theme park where civilians can pay five figures to interact with robots who are programmed to acquiesce to any human desire. It seems like a harmless — albeit extravagant — set-up until it’s revealed that the robots are becoming sentient. Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2018.

Joy and co-creator/co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan won a Critics’ Choice award for their work on “Westworld,” and have snagged Golden Globe, PGA, and WGA nominations as well.

Currently, Joy is working on the script for the feature film adaptation of “Battlestar Galactica.” Her screenplay “Reminiscence” made the 2013 Black List. She previously wrote for the fantasy dramedy “Pushing Daisies” and the ex-spy action drama “Burn Notice.”
