Yara Shahidi, Gillian Jacobs, Jessica Sanders, & More to Direct Season 2 of “Shatterbox Anthology”

Sanders’ “End of the Line” is part of Season 2

Details about Season 2 of “Shatterbox Anthology” have emerged. A press release has announced the directors participating in this run of Refinery29’s women-directed short film series. The freshman season launched at Sundance, but Park City is just the beginning: every title in this season will screen across all TNT platforms.

“Grown-ish” star Yara Shahidi, “Love” actress Gillian Jacobs, and “After Innocence” director Jessica Sanders are among those who stepped behind the camera in Season 2. On-screen talent includes Emily Mortimer. The season consists of eight shorts.

“Shatterbox Anthology” is intended to offer “emerging and established female filmmakers the support and opportunity to realize their visions and reach new audiences across multiple platforms,” according to the release.

Season 2 kicked off at Sundance with the world premiere of Sanders’ “End of the Line,” a story about a lonely man who buys a tiny man in a cage from a pet store. The film debuted January 20 and will be available to view on Refinery29’s site later this year,

“We first launched Shatterbox Anthology to push the film industry forward, and not only amplify female voices, but show the world what was possible,” said Amy Emmerich, Chief Content Officer of Refinery29. “We applaud TNT for seeing the value of these storytellers, and we’re looking forward to creating ongoing opportunities for future talent, as well as bringing this necessary content to an even broader audience across television and digital platforms.”

“Increasing the ranks of women both behind and in front of the camera has been a top priority of mine since starting at TNT,” added Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “We have hired over 400 women above and below the line across all of our new series and pilots thus far. The ‘Shatterbox Anthology’ series has helped to further this initiative by providing us the opportunity to identify the next crop of female filmmakers, both for our network and the industry as a whole.”

Season 1’s directors included Kristen Stewart (“Come Swim”), Chloe Sevigny (“Kitty”), and Anu Valia (“Lucia Before and After”).The first season has garnered more than 15 million views.
