Oprah Winfrey Joins “60 Minutes” Team

Oprah Winfrey is adding yet another job to her otherworldly resume. The hugely influential media mogul is set to join CBS’ “60 Minutes,” The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait some time to see the CEO of OWN’s take on current events: Her first appearance on the Sunday news magazine is scheduled for this fall.

“There is only one Oprah Winfrey,” said “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager. “She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life.” He continued, “She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for ‘60 Minutes.’ I am thrilled that she will be bringing her unique and powerful voice to our broadcast.”

Winfrey added, “I’ve been a big admirer of ‘60 Minutes’ since my days as a young reporter. I’m so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling.” The O Magazine founder emphasized, “At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds.”

Winfrey’s recent acting credits include “Greenleaf,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” and “Selma.” She’s reuniting with her “Selma” director and frequent collaborator Ava DuVernay for “A Wrinkle in Time.” The powerhouses serve as executive producers on the OWN family drama “Queen Sugar.” Winfrey is also set to star in HBO’s “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” alongside Rose Byrne (“Spy”).

Winfrey, who makes regular appearances on “CBS This Morning,” just launched her new book imprint under Flatiron Books, a division of Macmillan.
